Finca La Verona earned its name by being among the pioneering farms that exported coffee as a single origin to a Verona-based roaster in Italy during the 1950s. However, in 1983, the Sandinista regime expropriated the farm from the Mairena family. It wasn’t until 1996, under President Chamorro, that the farm was returned to its rightful owners. By then, the family faced the daunting task of rebuilding and replanting from scratch due to the farm’s deteriorated state. Today, they manage 61 hectares of land using sustainable agroforestry systems, while benefiting from the nutrient-rich soil near the nebliselva El Arenal Natural Reserves.
The family’s commitment to excellence hasn’t gone unnoticed in the coffee community. In fact, one of their lots was honored as a semi-finalist in the prestigious 2022 Nicaragua Cup of Excellence competition. To ensure the exceptional quality of this specific batch, it is carefully stored in hermetically sealed containers equipped with a CO2 release valve.
