2. The beans are removed from the water, and methylene chloride solvent is added to bond with the caffeine.
3. The methylene chloride and caffeine compound is skimmed from the surface of the mixture.
4. The beans are returned to reabsorb the liquid.

It is believed that methylene chloride processed coffee tends to taste better than coffee decaffeinated by other methods.
