Finca La Danta was established by Jorge Vides in 1958. At that time, he acquired a small parcel of land that was entirely covered by forest. Instead of clearing the old trees, he implemented a coffee cultivation system that coexisted with the existing ecosystem. Even today, the majority of the production occurs under the shade of trees.
Jorge Vides, a doctor who extensively traveled the Huehuetenango region, had an unwavering passion for coffee. In 1980, he made the decision to establish a school within his finca. This school aimed to accommodate the children of his employees during their work shifts.
Following Jorge Vides’ ownership, the finca was passed down to his son and subsequently to his granddaughter, Maria Elena. Since 2001, Maria Elena has exclusively focused on producing specialty coffee. Their production includes both washed and natural lots, which are meticulously hand-picked and carefully chosen. The particular lot being referred to is a natural process coffee, left to dry on concrete patios for a duration of three weeks.
